Vaultneur cannot read your vault. That is the whole point, and it is the reason we cannot send you a reset link when a key goes missing. There is nothing on our side to reset. What follows is exactly what each key does, and what happens if you lose it.
You saw these once, when you created your account. They are the only thing that can unlock your vault without your password.
You forget your password. That is the whole list. Your password unlocks your vault every day, and the recovery key sits behind it, unused, until the day you need it.
If you lose the words and forget your password, your vault stays encrypted forever. We hold no copy. Not in a backup, not in a support tool, not under subpoena. This is not a policy we could choose to bend. The key that decrypts your data has never existed on our servers.
Print it and put it where you keep your passport or your title deeds. A fireproof box is better. A second copy at a family member's house is better still.
Do not store it as a screenshot in your photo roll, or in an email to yourself, or in a notes app that syncs to a cloud account you might lose access to. Those places are exactly as safe as the account protecting them, which is the problem the recovery key exists to solve.
You can view and reprint your recovery key any time from Settings, while your vault is unlocked.
If you have set up Legacy Release, Vaultneur created a Legacy Card. It carries a claim code that lets the person you nominated open your vault after the release fires.
Not by you. By the person you nominated, at the worst moment of their year, when you are not there to help them.
The card is the only copy of that code. We store a hash of it and nothing else, so we cannot reissue it and we cannot tell you what it was. If the card is gone, your nominee cannot claim the vault.
You can fix this while you are here. Arm Legacy Release again from Settings and Vaultneur issues a fresh code and a new card. Doing so retires the old card immediately, so make sure the new one reaches your nominee.
With your will, at your attorney's office, or wherever your executor will look first. Tell your nominee it exists and where to find it. A claim code nobody knows about is the same as no claim code.
We cannot make that exception because the ability to make it is precisely the ability an attacker would exploit.
Every product that can email you a reset link can also be compelled to hand over your data. We gave that up deliberately. The keys in your hands are what you get in exchange.
Keys are a small thing to look after. Losing one is not.
