Encrypt on-device
Each file gets its own data key, which wraps it with AES-256-GCM before anything uploads. Your master key is derived from your passphrase and never leaves the phone. It lives in the device's secure storage.
Store, share, recover
Everything is filed by category and opens with Face ID. You decide what each family member can see. Lose the phone and your passphrase brings the binder back on a new one, and you're the only person who has it.

On-device envelope encryption
Each file is encrypted with its own AES-256-GCM data-encryption key (DEK). That DEK is then wrapped by your master key, which is generated and stored only on your device.

Biometric unlock
Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID or a fingerprint. Your passphrase derives the master key locally, and that key never leaves your phone.

Passphrase-derived master key
Your master key is derived from your passphrase using PBKDF2 with a high iteration count. Only you can recreate it, and only on a device where the passphrase has been entered.

Security paperWhy did Vaultneur move to mobile-only?
Holding keys on a server, even briefly, is the biggest risk in a vault product. Moving to phones means your master key is derived and held only on your own device. We can't read your data for the simple reason that we don't have a key that would decrypt it.
How is my data actually encrypted?
Each file gets a unique AES-256-GCM data-encryption key (DEK), generated on your phone. The DEK is wrapped by your master key, which is derived from your passphrase using PBKDF2 with a high iteration count. The wrapped master key is stored in your phone's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). Only the encrypted blob ever leaves your phone.
What types of records can I store?
IDs, passports, medical records, vaccination history, insurance, wills, contracts, deeds, financial statements, vehicle docs, photos of important papers: anything you'd put in a safe. Records are structured by category with form fields, while documents are scanned or imported files.
Can Vaultneur staff see my files?
No. Filenames are anonymised, all content is end-to-end encrypted, and we don't hold any key that could decrypt it. Staff see encrypted blobs and account metadata, nothing more.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Reinstall on a new device, sign in, and enter your passphrase to restore your Legacy Binder. If you forget your passphrase, nobody can recover your vault. Not us, not anyone. That is the trade-off of true zero-knowledge encryption: no one else holds a key to your data. Treat your passphrase the way you'd treat the deed to a house. Memorise it, keep a written copy somewhere safe, and never type it into a website.
How do payments work?
Free, Legacy Binder and Family Vault plans are all in-app purchases through the App Store and Google Play. There are no card forms on this website. Manage subscriptions from your phone's subscription settings.
Is my Emergency QR card public?
You decide what's on it. Public fields (name, allergies, ICE contacts) are readable by any camera; sensitive fields are gated to first responders via a one-time scan flow.
